The children of Smyadovo Municipality - dream, learn and play together

The project The children of Smyadovo Municipality - dream, learn and play together is aimed to create conditions for further training in Bulgarian language of students who has different mother tongue from Bulgarian, to support students from ethnic minorities to continue their education, to encourage parents for active participation in the educational processes and to overcome negative public attitudes based on ethnic and cultural identity. 7 clubs according to students’ interests will be formed in the three schools located in the Municipality of Smyadovo, where 152 students will get additional training, including students and young people from ethnic minorities (including Roma). The project focuses on active involvement of Roma and other ethnic minority parents in the educational processes by employing two educational mediators and establishing Parental clubs in each school to discuss issues related to children's education. The parents’ clubs will make suggestions to the school, will provide assistance for the successful work of the school and prevent students from dropping out of school etc. The proposed project includes conducting a cycle of parental lectures to raise awareness of parents and their activation - five lectures at the municipal level and eight lectures in each school. Essential for the success of the project is the individual work with parents and the development of forms of parental monitoring of the quality of education in the schools as well as including other forms of parental involvement. The project work includes organizing campaigns to overcome stereotypes and negative social attitudes based on ethnic and cultural identity, to support education in ethnically mixed environment at the school level with the participation of Roma and Bulgarian parents. A team, which includes a director, an accountant, a coordinator, a technical assistant and a PPLexpert, will be formed for the organization, implementation and management of the project.
