Integrated approach for achievement of significant and stable results in the educational integration of students from ethnic minorities in the Municipality of Burgas

The achievement of significant and stable results in the educational integration of students from ethnic minorities in the Municipality of Burgas is the main goal of the project. Involved in its implementation will be six primary schools and three vocational secondary schools, which provide integrated education to students from ethnic minorities. The duration of the project is 36 months. The project planned activities include additional lessons with students, whose mother tongue is different from Bulgarian, to compensate the gaps in the learning of school subjects, improvement of the educational environment, preservation and development of the cultural identity, psychological support, career counselling and professional orientation for continuation of students' education in secondary stage. An important part of the project is also the work with parents, which will be facilitated by the partnering non-governmental organization "Regional Roma Union". Of great significance for the successful integration and socialization of the students from ethnic minorities is also the active work for overcoming of negative social attitudes based on ethnic origin. As a result of the project implementation we expect to reduce the number of dropping out students, increase the number of students continuing their education in the secondary school, increase the number of successfully integrated through the education system students from ethnic minorities. The measures for educational integration will involve 746 students from ethnic minorities, of which 700 are expected to be permanently integrated.
