Tolerant together

The proposal aims to assist a total of 246 pupils from 1st to 10th grade from the “Sts. Cyril and Methodius” Secondary School in the town of Pordim, Pordim Municipality, where the majority of children identify themselves as Roma, in their development as adequate citizens with successful social and professional realization.The activities support the acquisition and development of pupils’ abilities and knowledge in the following fields: Bulgarian language, customs and traditions of different ethnicities, cuisine, folklore, art, sport. The activities to be carried out under the project will contribute to changing social attitudes and forging mutual understanding and tolerance.In the framework of the project a working model for enhancing motivation to participate in the educational process will be applied to both students and parents who identify themselves as Roma as well as to the Bulgarian majority. The project realization will contribute towards reaching the objective of the program - assisting ethnic minority pupils in their development as adequate citizens who could achieve successful professional, social and creative realization through better motivation of both students and parents to participate in the educational process; The following results will be achieved: 90% of the Roma students will be integrated in the educational system; they and their parents will perceive education as a valuable asset and a prerequisite for successful start in life; the educational environment will be better; the number of the ungrounded absences from school will decrease; the number of students who continue their education to secondary school will be higher as well as the number of those who finish their education successfully ; students’ motivation to participate in the school life will be higher; civil competences will be fostered in spirit of tolerance and cultural identity preservation; negative social attitudes based on ethnicity and cultural identity will be overcome
