Colorful beads

The ethnic map of Peshtera Municipality shows predominantly Bulgarian population and well represented Turkish and Roma ethnic groups. Excluded from the school system are mostly members of the Roma ethnic group, which has an unfavorable educational structure. This sends the integration of students into the educational system to the foreground. The project envisages 5 activities with the inclusion of at least 1 000 participants: 700 students and 300 parents: Diagnostics of the intercultural competence of students and parents and study on ethnic stereotypes and prejudices with the purpose of incorporating ethnic-psychological approach in schools. A workshop for tolerance will establish parent clubs, where at least 20% will be parents from minority groups, including Roma. These parent clubs will study town traditions for tolerance and acceptance of diversity by building a working model for motivation and support of parents for better educational results. School camps create conditions for successful socialization of students from ethnic minorities and marginalized groups; they also increase the motivation for education. The activity “Everyone is talented” is a complex of interrelated measures for intercultural dialogue in the school environment, for protection and promotion of the cultural diversity and the talents of the target group through the formation of artistic studios, research sections and interest groups with the purpose of creating a natural motivation for participation in education. The festivities upgrade and develop traditional for Peshtera Municipality activities by planning the inclusion of students and parents from minority communities into two town fests: Colorful world. The events will summarize the work of school groups and parent clubs and present them to parents, students, teachers and the general public in the form of music and dance performances, exhibitions, and recitals.
