Educational integration of students from ethnic minority groups at Municipality of ISPERIH

This project meets the need of solving specific problems of the students from the ethnic minority groups in the territory of the Municipality of Isperih. These problems are an obstacle for student’s education, upbringing and equal society integration. The problems are clearly identified at local level and they are included in the adopted Municipal action strategy for Roma integration 2015-2020: - difficult adaptation to school because of low socioeconomic status and poor command of the Bulgarian language; - difficulties in learning of the school material; - irregularly attending and exclusion from the school; - insufficient flexibility and lack of resources when choosing educational forms in terms of keeping them at the school; - discrimination; - insufficient resources and activities for keeping and developing of the specific ethnic culture identity of the student from the ethnic groups; - not good enough teachers’ preparation for work in multiethnic environment; - not good enough parent’s activity in the educational process. Statistic data (published in 2011) shows that 4, 18% from the population of the Municipality of Isperih is Roma and 68, 75% are from the Turkish minority group. There are 7 primary schools and one high school in the territory of the Municipality of Isperih. Classes in all of them are being attended by children from the ethnic societies. All schools are located out of the Roma neighborhoods. “Hristo Botev” school in Isperih is a partner of this project. Most of the schools in the Municipality of Isperih have a prevalent number of Roma and Turkish kids. The above-mentioned problems are typical for all schools, which determined their inclusion in this project. Implementation of the project activities would be a real step towards a successful educational integration of the children from Roma and Turkish minorities in the territory of the Municipality of Isperih.
