Modern Educational Approaches for Working in Multicultural Environment

The project proposal aims at improving the access of students, whose mother language is not Bulgarian to quality education through improved qualification, competencies and skills of the pedagogical staff for working in multiethnic environment. 3 partners schools are involved – 2 secondary education schools (Sofia and Kardjali) and one primary school in Kardjali, where the majority of the students are from multiethnic communities. Strategies for working in multicultural environment will be developed for each of the partner schools and guidelines for improvement of the educational process of the students from ethnic communities will be given. The strategies will include identification of the partner schools’ needs for improvement of their work in multiethnic environment, evaluation of the pedagogical specialists work with the students and their parents, assessment of the degree and the ways of involvement of the representatives of the marginalized communities, as well as a training needs analysis and a plan for improved qualification of the pedagogical specialists and educational mediators. 220 pedagogical specialists and school principals from the partner schools will improve their professional qualification going through a training program with qualification credits. 69 short-term out of town trainings will be held with 10 people in a group, they will go through 2, 3 or 4 training modules depending on the needs identified. In addition, three trainings for school mediation without credits will be held for educational mediators and pedagogical specialists in order to improve the relations between the school and the parents. The trained in both types of training will get certificates for successful completion of trainings for working in multicultural environment. The quality of the trainings held will be guaranteed by the qualified educators and educational programs of the project partner Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
