Increasing the capacity of pedagogical specialists and educational mediators to work in a multicultural environment

In recent decades, the model of intercultural education as a strategy for educational activity in a multicultural environment has been established within the EU institutions. The aim is to ensure access for all children and students to quality education, as well as their inclusion in common civic values. A problem for the implementation of intercultural education in Bulgaria is the lack of pedagogical specialists with competencies to teach children knowledge and to form skills for perception of ethnocultural differences overcoming negative stereotypes and cultural distances. Another problem is the insufficient implementation of methodological support for teachers, the use of their practical experience and interaction between all stakeholders. On the other hand, the quality of the training provided is strongly dependent on the teacher and his preparation and motivation for work. The project proposal envisages an analysis of the condition of the target educational institutions, including their organizational and functional capacity. Information will be provided on the training needs of pedagogical specialists working in kindergartens and schools to increase their qualification for work in a multicultural environment. The state and influence of external and internal factors on the activity of kindergartens and schools with a focus on work in a multicultural environment will be studied. Trainings will be held for teachers, principals and other pedagogical specialists from educational institutions - kindergartens and schools, partners in the project proposal, to work in a multicultural educational environment, which will end with the award of 1 to 3 qualification credits. There will also be trainings for pedagogical specialists and educational mediators from the educational institutions - kindergartens and schools, partners in the project proposal, for work in a multicultural educational environment, which do not end with the awarding of qualification credits.
