Multiple sources of ionizing radiation are used daily when performing basic medical procedures in the Radiotherapy Department.Individual radiation exposure of personnel is controlled and dosing allowances are not exceeded. There is a motivated team of highly qualified specialists who work in the Department, despite the severe deficit of cadres in the country. Some of the working professionals are over 54 years old and are considering the possibility of an early retirement. All of them are aware that they work in an environment with ionizing radiation and of the high work intensity. It requires continuous presence, concentration and control to avoid mistakes that can be fatal and involves daily interaction with people in poor physical and mental condition.Hiring young professionals with the necessary qualification is extremely difficult, since they are missing from the labor market. During measurements and therapy with MMLA a residual activation is obtained, and thus the chance of external and internal exposure of the personel. There risks of working in an environment with ionizing radiation and the psycho-social factors can not be avoided. The established standards for radiation protection are aimed at the prevention of deterministic radiation effects and limitation of the risk of stochastic effects to "acceptable" levels. The leading principle is of optimization and reduction of exposure to levels that are as low as reasonably possible. The exposure cannot be avoided, but can be reduced through the application of physical and technical measures. These include the purchase, deployment and training to work with new control systems. They will ensure the continued operation of the equipment in optimal conditions, securing the minimum possible exposure for staff and patients and represent a collective defense measure.Any potential negative trends and effects which lead to deterioration of the radiation parameters would be detected before they become a real problem.
