Support for Independent Living

The implementation of the Independent Living procedure in Veliko Turnovo Municipality would use the good results which were achieved in the framework of “Alternatives”. The upgraded results would be realized through offering a wider scope of activities and better coverage of the integrated social and health services and other services in view of the specific needs of disabled people. Taking into account the demographic changes in Veliko Turnovo Municipality, related to the ageing population, the need of elderly care services is more than ever requested. The overall obstacles of people aged 65 years and over, who are unable to care for themselves at home /partially or fully/, are caused by health problems, lack of social contacts, unavailability to organize their daily schedule at home, as well as considering the fact that in general they are living alone. The present project proposal aims at improvement of the access to social and health care services, providing a psychological support, reaching an independent living and social inclusion for the elderly people and people with disabilities. The project would encourage the equal opportunities for the vulnerable groups throughout wide range, variety and focus of the social services provided in the community. The target groups are the people with disabilities and their families, as well as people aged 65 and over, who are unable to take care for themselves. In the framework of the project will be established a Center for hourly care services that ensure social inclusion in the local community or within the domestic environment. For providing these services will be hired personal assistants, house keepers, nurse, psychologist, who will actively support the target group. Veliko Turnovo Municipality ensures in order a sustainability of the project proposal to be achieved, that the social and health services will be provided for a period of at least six months following the project completion.
