The project is aimed at encouraging the social inclusion of children and young people with severe intellectual and multiple disabilities, living in residential services in Sandanski Municipality, through participation in specific development programmes and activities, through therapeutic support and volunteering. The project activities include 12 children and young people with disabilities, living in Family-type residential centre and in Sheltered living, Valkovo village, Sandanski Municipality. The activities include: Activity 1. Study of the interrelation between the needs of children and youths with disabilities and the resources in the community for volunteering and social inclusion Activity 2. Development of independent living skills Activity 3. Development through music, art, sport, therapy Activity 4. Participation of children and youths in local activities Activity 5. Information and publicity of the project Multidisciplinary team of specialists and volunteers applies principles of respect, trust, effective communication, choice and participation. The expected results are entirely focused on the needs and the potential of the children and young people with severe intellectual and multiple disabilities, namely: - Prepared and used package of research instruments and programmes for development of the children and youths’ potential aimed at active and independent life; - 12 children and youths are actively included in needs and development assessment, in programmes for independent living and in local initiatives; - 3 volunteers communicate and support the children and youths and attract local resources; - A positive change in the attitudes is achieved, and the knowledge about the potential of children and youths with disabilities and their right to be accepted in the community is shared.
