Integrated Approach for Social and Economic Integration of vulnerable groups in the Municipality of Vidin

The project objective is to establish an effective and innovative model for sustainable social and economic integration of people from the vulnerable groups in Vidin Municipality. This model aims at improving the quality of life, reducing poverty and stopping poverty transmitted through generations. Our concept is based on a cross-sector approach and a set of complementary activities targeting the existing problems of people and families from the vulnerable groups. These activities are combined with an individual approach which takes into account the requirements and the preferences of the target groups. The project includes a number of activities for sustainable integration on the labour market including measures for activation, motivational and vocational training, provision of subsidized employment as well as promotion of entrepreneurship and self-employment. An integrated community-based social and health service will be created in active partnership with the NGO sector. It will provide for health promotion, better quality of life and care for the elderly and people with disabilities from the marginalized groups. Sustainable integration requires activities for overcoming negative stereotypes towards the Roma community and promotion of the cultural identity of the Roma as an integral part of the civil society in Vidin and in Bulgaria. Social and economic integration is a process which requires lasting and targeted efforts in support of children and families. It is necessary to reduce the share of drop-outs and to work with parents for their active participation including through "school for parents". The project includes a wide variety of complementary activities for students in risk of dropping-out, additional schooling in Bulgarian for children and pupil whose mother tongue is different, improvement of the educational environment in their schools and kinder gardens. Career consulting is also envisaged to support the transition from education to employment.
