"Personal development of people with mental disorders and intellectual disabilities for support and social inclusion"

This project proposal seeks to improve the quality of life and the effective inclusion in society of persons with mental disorders and intellectual disabilities housed in specialized institutions by providing accessible and high quality sustainable services. The target group of the project is: Adults, including persons with disabilities, accommodated in specialized institutions, and their families. The activities to be implemented are: Personal development of the target groups, through methods and practices other than the national measures and programs provided; Acquiring independent living skills; Conducting therapeutic activities to compensate for developmental disabilities; Promoting volunteering. The project activities will be carried out on the territory of Smolyan Municipality, in which currently operate: “House for Adults with Mental Disorders” - Petkovo village, with a capacity of 100 spots, “House for Adults with Mental Disabilities” - Village of Rovina, with a capacity of 87 spots. Duration of service provision, 18 months. With the permission and assistance of the Social Services Provider and the directors of the institutions, we aim to reach a total of 35 adults accommodated in the specialized institutions. The provided activities will help people with mental disorders and intellectual disabilities acquire skills for a more independent and dignified life, expand their opportunities for a more self-sufficient lifestyle, which will lead to a smoother transition of the adults using services in specialized institutions to switch to public community services. The activities set out in this project proposal are in line with the Action Plan for the period 2018-2021 for the implementation of the National Long-Term Care Strategy and are part of the overall process of deinstitutionalization of care for people with disabilities and the elderly in alternative community support, by providing quality and affordable long-term care services.
