Transnational Partnership for Social Innovations

Social services for people with disabilities today greatly transcend the traditional view of the role and place of "social service" as something given or organized by the state through its public finances or its authorized permits and licenses. Social services are also carried out by citizens that through the use of modern technologies to create conditions for full and effective exercise of rights of the vulnerable and in need of support group. This type of public social service aims to be created and introduced in Bulgaria in the framework of this project. The service is to identify and transfer 2 social innovations that will improve the awareness of people with disabilities of the opportunities and obstacles in the surrounding environment. This will be implemented through a special online platform and adjoining mobile application. This will create conditions for more rapid and qualitative integration of people with disabilities and to create conditions for public engagement to solve the most pressing problems in the field of accessibility for them. The social services will represent a detailed map /pilot in Sofia, Bulgaria/ of two separate categories of objects: 1) urban environment - sidewalks, underpasses, overpases, urban ground and underground transport and others and 2) public places - administrative buildings of local and central authorities, museums, theaters, cinemas, restaurants, hotels and more. In identifying the specific aspects of these two socially innovative practices the leading organization will be supported by Access Earth Limited - Ireland. Furthermore, the partner will be involved in the transfer of innovations through support for the training of employees in project that will evaluate the accessible urban environment. The created service and its two aspects will enable people with disabilities to better integrate into the society through systematization of information for the accessibility or the inaccessibility in Sofia.
