Increasing the capacity of occupational health and safety experts in Bulgaria

The project proposal of the Foundation "Center for Safety and Health at Work" is aimed at increasing the capacity of professionals for health and safety at work by exploring and sharing of innovative practices and approaches in the field of providing healthy and safe working conditions and increasing the quality of jobs. Two innovative practices from Austria and the UK will be studied and adapted. As a pilot project the newly adapted innovations will be transferred and implemented in 13 Clubs of specialists in occupational safety and health (OSH) working closely with the Foundation and municipal enterprises of the municipality of Zlatograd. Innovative practices include A/creation of a point system for self-assessment of OSH specialists and creating an online platform allowing the use of this system and B /adaptation of a training program of 280 hours for OSH specialists. The Foundation has found out on the basis of its personal experience, long-standing partnership with the foreign partner organizations and the direct observing of the way they work, that the two innovative practices are crucial for professionals of OSH, as they will meet their needs for continuous knowledge and skills development and their (self-) evaluation, which are insufficient at the moment. Adaptation and transfer of innovative practices will lead to the formation of a constant need to develop competencies in the professional field of target groups - employees and employers as well as municipality of Zlatograd as employer and clubs and organizations whose business is specialized in the field of safety and health at work. Events and trainings throughout the country will be carried out by the experts of the Foundation, who will transmit their knowledge acquired during their stay in the UK and Austria to the participants. Office equipment will be bought for the technical supporting of the project activities.
