Opportunities for Early Child Development of Roma Children from Sungurlare Municipality

The project aims to strengthen the transnational cooperation between Municipality of Sungurlare and the "Center for Expertise on Social Welfare in Southeast Finland," city Laaperanta, in their efforts to create more opportunities for social inclusion of families with young children in a similar social situation. The project activities will help local authorities and families to meet the needs of early childhood development of children aged 0-6 years from families of ethnic minorities and marginalized communities. Within the project, Sungurlare Municipality will have the opportunity to explore in depth, through an expert approach, the innovative practices of “Family Center” and “Kids Draw“, which create a safe, developing social space for children and their parents. In addition, the project will also examine the practice of providing integrated services through a cross-sectoral, multidisciplinary approach tailored to the specific needs and population structure in Sungurlare. A documentary study, a study visit and on-line amp; face-to-face expert meetings will be carried out, which will lead to the elaboration of expert reports describing and analyzing the practices studied. The project also includes activities for transferring the researched practices after their adaptation according to the specific needs of the target groups and the local context in Sungurlare municipality. For this purpose, partner meetings will be held for discussion and peer sharing, field work will be done in Sungurlare for application of the "Kids Draw" practice involving the parents of the children, a family center and a cross-sectoral municipal taskforce for early childhood development will be established. We expect to achieve a social innovation in the municipality that will increase the early childhood development opportunities, will improve the parental capacity and the intersectoral partnership as well as will build a lasting partnership with colleagues from Finland.
