The citizens and the local authorities - partners creating open and responsible governance

With the current Project RMA “Maritza” aims to improve the local governance regarding its transparency and responsibility, increasing civic participation in the processes of formulation, implementation and monitoring of local government policies and legislation, carrying out civil monitoring and making recommendations. The need for implementation of the current project stems from the lost in the last years dialogue at local level between the civil society and the local administrations. Increasing civic participation in decision-making and local policy implementation will improve the socio-economic development of the region and enhance the capacity of the public, NGOs, businesses and local authorities. The main activities that will achieve the objectives and results in the project are: developing an analysis of legal regulations in Bulgaria related to citizen participation in local government; conducting a study "Forms of civic participation in Haskovo region for the last 5 years and the role of the administration in their implementation"; developing specific mechanisms for improving the environment for civic participation in local government; conducting training of the personnel related to the improvement of the civic participation in the process of formulation, implementation and monitoring of local policies in Haskovo region; conducting an information raising public awareness campaign and promoting civic participation at local level, setting up an online space for civic participation and promoting civic activity at the local level, etc.; organizing a conference on "Civil Participation in Local Governance", which will contribute to the sustainable cooperation and exchange of experience between NGOs, citizens and administration to improve citizens' participation.
