Citizen participation and public control in the decision-making process

The project "Citizen participation and public control in the decision-making process" aims to increase the civic activity in three municipalities: D. Mitropolia, Levski and Belene to build new mechanisms for local communities to participate in the local decision-making process . Throughout the project, community attitudes, priority community issues and civic resources of the three communities will be explored, as well as successful practices of direct civic participation in local government. Civilian teams of local informal leaders will be formed to be trained on civilian instruments to influence government, advocacy, and civilian monitoring of public authorities and institutions. The new knowledge and skills will be implemented in practice by organizing public forums under the AGORA model, with the support of the AGORA Association, to highlight the most important issues and their solutions; Working forums to formulate specific mechanisms for involving citizens in the process of formulating local policies; Information campaigns for community activation, advocacy campaigns to build new mechanisms and Civil Monitoring for their functioning. The final district conference will provide a public report on the results achieved, disseminate the idea of citizens' participation in local self-government, contribute to the sustainability of the established and implemented mechanisms and contribute to the multiplication of experience. As a result of the project activities, the three municipalities will develop new approaches for real dialogue between the government and the citizens; formalized and sustained practical tools for their direct participation in local self-government; will raise civic culture, self-esteem and citizens' activity in the lives of their own communities.
