FORUM FOR APPLIED DEMOCRACY

The high degree of civic engagement is a fundamendal feature of the democratic governance in which society actively participates in decision-making and is the engine of a desired change. The functioning civil society builds democratic local communities. The engagement of citizens in the local government leads to better solutions to social problems and easier adoption of policy decisions. The current project proposal is developed in three main activities "WE - Citizens-THEY", "Program for Civil Actions", "Partnership for Local Economic Development" and will be implemented in partnership with two non-government organizations and one municipal administration. The presence of multiple forms of civic participation in local self-government implies efficiency and effectiveness in the work of the local administration. The bottom- up approach is embedded in the project as all activities are focused on local government actions and concern the direct civic participation in the formulation, execution and monitoring of local policies by analyzing the provided opportunities by national legislation for civil participation, civil monitoring on the actions of the administration and the undertaken actions against it in the construction field, drawing up of recommendations for eliminating the deficiencies and sharing good practices to improve the investment climate and foster the local economic development; conducting public- awareness activities to enhance the interaction capacity and partnerships between the different stakeholders in order to build a democratic civil society and enhance trust in the local administration. The project aims to foster civic participation in policy-making processes focused on the improvement of the socio-economic climate, as well as to develop a mechanism for joint cooperation and consultation for improving both business environment and the capacity of the civil society.
