Enhancing civil participation in the local waste management policies

Still the main models of interaction between civil society amp; local government are not an established component in local management practice. Institutions at the local level report the benefit of having a model of collaboration with the third sector, but do not think that they could initiate its creation and organization. At local level, there are conditions for more flexible and more direct channels of communication between NGOs and local authorities in relation to waste management (WM), which, however, are not sufficiently developed. The objectives and activities envisaged in this project are to meet the needs of the target groups by involving representatives of the civil sector, businesses and citizens in implementation and monitoring of policy-making in WM. The project targets the following main target groups: LPAs, NGOs, socio-economic partners, business, state institutions dealing with WM issues. The overall project objective is to increase civic participation in the processes of development, implementation amp; monitoring of WM policies. As a result of the project implementation, the interaction between the administration and the citizens will be increased, the activity of the civil society in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of policies in the field of WM will be increased and concrete recommendations will be made, the socio-economic state in the region will improve as a result of increased confidence in the work of the administration. The main activities are: 1. Research, analysis and evaluation of the current level of participation of the civil society in the local environmental policies. 2. Civil observation of the activities of the LPA on the implementation of the WM policies. 3. Establishment of a network of interested partners, formation of an Advisory Council for implementation and monitoring of WM policies. 4. Raise public awareness and promote civic participation in WM policy.
