Improvement of the specialized knowledge and skills of National Centre of Radiobiology and Radiation Protection - NCRRP staff with territorial competence in districts of Sofia-city, Sofia district, Pernik, Blagoevgrad and Kiustendil for conducting the State Health Radiation Control.

The NCRRP is a legal entity of budget maintenance and its activity is conducting state health-radiation Control (SHRC) in compliance with the requirements for protection of the public health from the effects of ionizing radiation. The control is carried out by the inspectors at the direction of the SHRC, supported by the Radiation Protection Department and other laboratories in the centre. Conducting the control requires the constant upgrade of the specialized knowledge, skills and competencies of employees. The specifics of the activity require thorough knowledge of different topics, exchange of experience and fast adaptation to the news in the field of radiation protection. The conducting of trainings on current topics of the inspectors and the employees of the NCRRP with territorial competencies, as well as new employees, who after the training could be involved in the implementation of the SHRC, is necessity and will ensures the effectiveness of health prevention. The project provides specialized trainings on two activities, including increasing the knowledge, skills and competencies of the employees in conducting preliminary, systematic and directed the SHRC in sites with sources of ionizing radiation and specialized control over radiation factors of the working and living environment. New international standards and European directives have necessitated a change in national regulatory requirements in the field of radiation protection. The assessment of radiation factors in the workplace and living environment requires continuous harmonization with good world practice. All of the above determine continuous specialized training of the employees and in this sense the implementation of the project will contribute to the improvement of the qualification of the employees and will guarantee the holding of a SHRC at a high expert level.
