Our project will support citizen participation in decision-making processes in Dolni Chiflik municipality, Varna region, by creating and testing a toolkit for periodic citizen monitoring of actions, decisions and policies implemented by the municipal administration within 10 months. Civil society organizations (CSOs) will be given the opportunity to support and legitimize the decisions of the municipal administration concerning specific environmental policies, a primary concern of the municipal leadership, relating to the efficient management of the municipal budget and the rational use of funds. The efforts of all NGOs of the municipality will be united, a MEMORANDUM TOGETHER with parameters of cooperation with the local government will be developed and signed. The project activities will engage young representatives of the local civil society - children and youth, as they are an important driver of change, with a huge impact on the future of the world. A survey will be carried out on the attitudes of 100 primary school students and 20 other stakeholders regarding solid waste separation in schools. Educational initiatives to create skills for separate collection will be proposed and tested. An advocacy campaign and capacity building of CSOs will also be conducted involving children in interactive games to introduce separate garbage collection in schools. Residents of the municipality will give opinions and suggestions to be heard. They will understand the governance and decision-making mechanisms of the municipality and the efforts it is making, and their views will be reflected in the process. On the other hand, the local government will improve its openness and transparency, and gain legitimacy for its decisions. Following surveys and assessments of local community attitudes and the actions of the administration, recommendations will be made and new methods of interaction related to the implementation of local waste collection policies will be tested.
