Increasing civic participation in the implementation and monitoring of policies and legislation related to the protection of children's rights

One of the biggest problems facing the country is the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health and full development of children and young people in Bulgaria. The introduced form of distance learning imposed isolation on the children, which significantly increased the risks for their mental health and development. The effects on distance learning children are related to the increase of stress and problems in their emotional state, in terms of their quality of education, mental state, their communication skills and their general health. As a result of long hours in front of the electronic device, many children begin to show signs of loneliness, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and aggression. The loss of habitual habits, the difficulty of social cohesion, the interruption of education, the restrictions imposed on leaving, insecurity, anxiety and the fear of falling ill have a profound effect on the mental health of society. The reality facing Bulgaria as a result of the impact of the crisis on the condition of children requires the mobilization of the efforts of ministries, government agencies, municipal authorities, social partners, research departments and civil society organizations. It is through the implementation of this project proposal that the aim is to improve the policies in the short and long term in order to better and adequately support children and families in the Republic of Bulgaria. The project aims to promote interaction between the administration and citizens and increase citizen participation in the implementation and monitoring of policies and legislation in the field of protection of children's rights violated as a result of the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 epidemic. The project proposal is aimed at influencing the local level - Sofia Municipality.
