National Horse Breeding Center Task Force

The present project was prepared by the Applicant as a CO in innovation related to horse breeding. The innovative approach is a method of artificial insemination, developed and put into practice, through cryopreserved horse seed, which will increase the economic, social and environmental performance of the horse breeding industry. In Bulgaria this method is not applied in practice. The project unites key participants in the social system (horse breeders, scientific institute of animal breeding and NGOs with the subject of activity - development and preservation of horse breeding in Bulgaria), who have adequate knowledge and experience and aim to solve a common problem ( qualitative and successful artificial insemination of horses through cryopreserved seed material), based on intensive transfer (through selection, testing and analysis) and dissemination of knowledge, facts, ideas and by promoting systematic scientific and practical reasoning and approach.  The expected main results are:-Sustainability of the links between the horse breeders and the science for practical implementation of innovative solutions.- Achieving horizontal RDP targets for innovation, environmental protection, mitigation and adaptation to the effects of climate change.-Introduction of farm innovations by testing and adapting methods and technologies other than conventional ones (artificial insemination with cryopreserved semen).- Increased competitiveness and sustainable development of horse breeding.-Gen bank created for local, Bulgarian horse breeds and introduced horse breeds. The stakeholders of the project results are: - horse breeders. The gene pool of each farm will be improved, elite animals with high potential will be selected and bred, the technology and the way of their breeding will be improved, the ecosystem on the farm will be preserved.
