Harmanli - culture, traditions and customs

Intangible cultural heritage is passed on from generation to generation, connecting people, groups and communities and giving them a specific identity with the potential to attract visitors and guests. The project "Harmanli - Culture, Traditions and Customs" aims to preserve, restore and popularize the cultural and rural identity of Harmanli Municipality with a focus on intangible cultural heritage and "living human treasures". The main activities include documenting, filming and making a film about local customs, celebrations, rituals and folklore taken during one calendar year. Through the LED screen for outdoor broadcasting with modern technology, they will be given the opportunity for the year-round presentation to residents, guests and tourists in the municipality. In order to allow for the restoration and authentic presentation of customs, celebrations, rituals and folklore from the region, 82 traditional folk costumes will be purchased for the living human treasures, which will be used to recreate the customs of Jordanov day and other folklore. The most important local and authentic customs, rituals and folklore from Harmanli and Thrace will be presented within the framework of the Thracian Embroidery Festival and the traditional celebration of Jordanov Day. Both events are of municipal and regional significance and cover the territory and provide benefits for more than one settlement in the municipality (covering all settlements). Both events will be organized with a focus on the participation of young people and women from the municipality and will represent cultural sights, local customs and folklore that are important for the identity of the region. As a result of the implementation of the project, it will be possible to present and access to the cultural heritage of nearly 20,000 people from the municipality by documenting and preserving the region's authentic wealth and creating a job to ensure sustainable dissemination of the results on the project.
