New opportunities for organic farming - added value for local agricultural products

The development of organic farming is one of the priority areas of the RDP. The economy of the two municipalities follows the general trends of the development of the Bulgarian economy. Established advantages on the territory of LAG Zavet - Kubrat are: 1. Preserved traditional farming practices such as growing of fruit, vegetables and livestock. Existence of large areas of agricultural land suitable for organic farming; 2. Preserved natural environment and richness of natural resources - forests, flora, fauna, natural landmarks and protected areas; 3. Production experience and traditions in the field of logging and wood processing, agriculture. The development opportunities set out in the Strategy of the LAG Zavet - Kubrat are: 1. Organized participation of farmers in national and international exhibitions. Creation and consolidation of a nationally emblematic local product, development of organic farming; 2. Sustainable use of natural resources - forests, flora, fauna, natural landmarks and protected areas (herbs, fruits, mushrooms, trees, game, etc.); 3. Access to investments in new technologies for development of modern agriculture and forestry, certification of agricultural and forestry products. Within the framework of the project, a study will be carried out to determine the potentials of LAG Zavet - Kubrat for the development of bio-farming activities, the interest and related problems of the local producers. The project proposal plans to sign a partnership agreement and develop a joint project with another LAG (from a European country with leading practices in the field of organic farming) to ensure future action in the field of organic farming and its validation as a growing production and added value. This will be achieved through exchange of experiences with a country / s with established traditions and proven results in this area.
