The Old Houses of Tutrakan

The present project proposal is aimed at increasing the awareness of both local citizens and visitors to Tutrakan and the LAG area about the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region. This is to be achieved by developing an internet-based Smart Point information system presenting the old houses in Tutrakan built in the Vienna style, typical of the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. During that period, Tutrakan was an important centre of grain exports to Austria-Hungary and other Danubian countries, home to more than 10 major grain traders and a town with vibrant social and cultural life. The project proposal envisages the realisation of two activities: 1) Research and Preservation of the History of 20 Old Tutrakan Houses; and 2) Development, Implementation and Promotion of “The Old Houses of Tutrakan” – an Internet-Based Smart Point System. The project results are planned to contribute to the strategic goal of the LAG Strategy, in its part concerning the valorisation and preservation of cultural and historic heritage, as well as to Priority 3 – Delevopment of teritorial identity based on cultural and historic heritage and natural assets, with Specific goal 5 – Valorisation and preservation of the natural, cultural and historic heritage of the territory. The project will create a tourist attraction which will be new to the territory and open for public access. The execution of the project will comply with the horizontal principles of the EU by: consulting the interested parties; encouraging equality and non-discrimination between men and women in the realisation of project activities. The use of up-to-date information technologies will ensure the accessibility of the tourist product to people with disabilities. The project envisages minimal use of paper, presenting the information in electronic form, and using resources in an efficient and sustainable way.
