In Search of Lost Roots

Bulgaria is a country with a rich historical heritage and cultural diversity. Traditional food and traditional ways of processing food are part of the cultural heritage of every settlement, every region and country. The preservation, promotion and transmission of the intangible cultural heritage, which is an integral part of our culture, is especially relevant in the modern world. In this respect, the territory of the MIG Elena - Zlataritsa has a rich historical heritage and cultural diversity, one of the significant traditions being related to nutrition, traditional food, processing of food and raw materials. The topic of food and nutrition has been multifaceted and in recent decades has been the subject of great scientific interest in a number of EU countries, because we live in a time where most Europeans have fast food and a variety of soft drinks and etc., and rarely or almost never with traditional foods. With this unification and the loss of traditional food and traditional ways of eating, local communities are increasingly losing their intangible heritage. There is one more fact. In the past, the fate of our cultural heritage was dependent solely on oral transmission - a time-resistant way of preserving information across generations. Therefore, one of the goals of the project will be to exploit the features of modern society, by applying the latest digital technologies, to conduct research and develop a mobile application in order to preserve the culinary traditions of all ethnic groups in the region. As a second objective, catering to the needs of traditionalists and tourists, a cookery guide will be issued and distributed free of charge to all tourists and guests of the city. By returning to the forgotten traditions, the project team will help the local community reassess their values as well as enhance their local patriotism.
