Conducting field archeological study on the territory of Lom Municipality

The current project proposal of the Municipality of Lom, of the cost of 34 047.33 BGN corresponds to Specific Objective 3, Priority 3 of LAG LOM SCLLD. A large proportion of the cultural activities in the municipality are of tourist interest. There is a potential to develop sites of cultural and historical tourism which represent one of the procedure objectives. The project is focused on archaeological field study and subsequent initiatives to provide adequate impact and dissemination of the results. Rationale of the project is collection and analysis af relevant archaeological data from microregions along Lom river and by the Danubian bank. In spite of numerous indications of human habitation in these areas since prehistoric times, the project proposal is aimed at systematic survey, never carried in these parts of Bulgaria. Almus and Pomodiana provide information about Roman period in this section of the Lower Danube Limes. Due to their importance, these sites have status as entries in the indicative list of collective monuments under UNESCO protection. Direct impact of the project involves registration of archaeological sites (in the area of the City of Lom) and their protection according to current legislative framework, as well as dissemination/transfer of knowledge to stakeholders. The terrain stages of project activities follow the requirements in CHA and DNo 00-00-0001 / 14.0202011of the MC. A six-member research team will explore 3150 acres along the Danube River and river Lom, located in municipality of Lom. Dissemination stage includes a scientific event to report and to discuss of the results, as well as data publication. The state-of-art and looter interventions on sites justify proposed project activities as prompt response to actual challenge. This project comes as logical sequel of Almus and Pomodiana projects (in 2019 and 2020), financed by the MC.
