Promoting the development of competitive fruit growing through nurturing bee families

The candidate with this project is farmer Tomas Ivanov Todorov from Belitsa village, municipality of Tutrakan, region Silistra. He is young, not married, has an understanding of growing fruits and is applying with an orchard farm in Stefan Karadja village where he grows apricots. He is planning on developing the farm further by planting 14 ha of apricots and buying 30 families of bees. He is planning on a long-term investment of buying a bathtub for printing honeycombs. By growing the farm, he will have to provide work to workers, which in turn will help to decrease the high unemployment rate in Bulgarian villages and impact positively the ongoing migration away from said places. The young farmer will work in two main streams – agriculture and plants, and animals, which means he’d have to be constantly involved in the work and the development of the farm. He’s aiming to build a sustainable farm which would provide for a consistent income and will motivate him to stay in his native land and not migrate away.
