Permanent cessation of fisheries activities of fisheries vessel "St. Martin"

Fishing vessel (FV) St. Martin (under the Bulgarian name Sveti Martin) is part of its own fishing fleet of the commercial company Sever Export OOD, with the operational field of "commercial fishing and fish processing and fish products". The vessel has an external marking BH 3602 and has a total overall length of 11.6 meters. The gross tonnage of the vessel amounts to 8.25 tons and its age is 19 years old considered by current year 2017. The main fishing gear with which the vessel is equipped is gill nets, and as a supplementary gear, the vessel uses a pelagic trawl. The home place of the ship and its permanent registration is the port of Varna. FV St. Martin is an active fishing vessel that mainly target turbot and other economically valuable fish species, as well as Rapana (sea snail). With the implementation of this project, Sever Export Ltd intends to balance its fleet by eliminating a less efficient vessel that generates high operating costs for fuel and maintenance. In addition, the company wishes to scrap St. Martin because the gear used, possess low selectivity and will contribute to reducing unwanted catches which lead to additional costs of unloading, storage and handling and subsequent processing for Sever Export Ltd. The elimination of RV "St. Martin" will improve the efficiency of Sever Export OOD's fishing fleet and the production program of the company's processed products will be preserved as the raw material will be more efficiently harvested from the other four fishing vessels in the fleet - "Boomerang", "Odessos Fishing", "Rusano" and "Perun 2". All of the above mentioned reasons made the choice of the company to apply for the scrapping of a St. Martin fishing vessel under Measure 1.3 "Permanent cessation of fishing activities". According to the requirements of the measure, Sever Export Ltd will not register a new fishing vessel for 5 years after the date of receiving the grant.
