"Conservation and restoration of marine biodiversity and ecosystems in the waters of Varna Bay"

Protecting the environment and raising awareness in this direction are among the main priorities set in EU policy. Among the specific environmental challenges facing the EU and in particular the Republic of Bulgaria, the main place is occupied by water pollution with slowly degradable waste - mainly plastic. The Black Sea coastline and waters report increased levels of pollution, and lost or abandoned fishing gear poses an additional major threat to marine biodiversity. In this regard, any activity aimed at supporting the viability and balance of the marine environment by removing polluting waste and lost fishing gear is of paramount importance to the fisheries sector and the development of the local community. This PP is aimed at improving the state of the marine environment in the waters of Varna Bay, by collecting waste and lost fishing gear and provides for training, information campaigns and awareness raising campaigns on the subject among the fishing community and the coastal population. The successful implementation of such a project has the potential to direct and accumulate additional public energy, thus achieving a lasting effect on the environment and the formation of environmental awareness of the local community. The PP envisages the partnership with FLAG Varna, Asparuhovo - Beloslav - Aksakovo Region, which will favor the coverage of all stakeholders from the local community. In this way, the process will be supported through the Leader approach and will be based on the specific needs and characteristics of the local population. The objectives of the project proposal will be recognized by the local community and will bring greater benefits to those involved in the project. The implementation of the project will contribute to the achievement of the specific objectives set out in Article 6 (1) of Regulation (EU) № 508/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 May 2014 on the EMFF and the objectives of the 2014-2020 MAP.
