International campaign to promote products from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture on new markets

This project proposal is directed to the "Conducting Information Campaigns" sector. Bulgarian Black Sea fish have very good taste qualities, superior to same species from import. The reason for this is the biochemistry of the Black Sea, which is special - its salinity is twice lower as other seas. Bulgarian consumers rarely consume and have the opportunity to find good fresh fish and aquaculture. It is not uncommon imported fish to be offered as Bulgarian on the market. Only 20% of the fish on Bulgarian markets is with Bulgarian origin. About 200 species of fish and seafood are consumed in Bulgaria, but only 34 species are caught in the Black Sea. In addition, the quality of fish and aquaculture from sustainable fishing in the Bulgarian Black Sea is poorly known and unpopular in Bulgarian sea resorts and abroad. Our project proposal meets the need to conduct an information campaign with two directions: 1. National campaign promoting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture products aimed at improving product prestige and raising public awareness in the fisheries and aquaculture sector and 2. Transnational promotional campaign for Black Sea products caught or produced using environmentally friendly methods. Through promotional events in coastal settlements where the catching, breeding and production of fish and fishery products is concentrated, an information campaign under the motto "Blue Growth through Sustainable Fishing" will be held. Emphasis will be placed on improving the recognition of products from sustainable small- scale fisheries, issues and policies from the EU Water Framework Directive and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive will be presented in three main district cities on Black Sea - Varna, Burgas and Balchik and the knowledge of "blue growth" will be enrich. The transnational campaign includes advertising of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture products at a European largest health food fair- "The International Green Week" in Berlin, Germany.
