The Black Sea marine waters status - study of the Black sea floor and the marine environment by the Friends of the Black Sea Association

The project addresses the problem of good ecological status of the Black Sea marine waters. Many projects are currently underway aimed at exploring different areas of the marine environment. This project will explore specific areas that have not been explored so far and are the missing link for completing Black Sea marine waters status data. The project envisages studies of the seabed and the marine environment, including coastlines, inlet lakes and river waters, and all the pressure exerted by all human activities. New underwater scanning equipment will be purchased and used for seabed exploration and scanning. The received data will be merged with the existing data as well as the data obtained from other projects currently implemented. The data will be analyzed by more than 10 experts-scientists from IO at BAS, EAFA and other scientific and research organizations that are part of the Project Implementation Team. The project team will work in close collaboration with partner organizations from Romania and Turkey to jointly implement activities that contribute to the achievement and maintenance of good environmental status and ensure the conservation of biodiversity in the Black Sea. The project will implement at least two pilot initiatives that will improve the achievement of some of the objectives of the Blue Growth Strategy, thereby contributing to the improvement of the marine environment and increasing the contribution to the achievement of the objectives of Bulgaria's Marine Strategy. All analyzes will be summarized in an academic report, which will be published online and sent to the stakeholders and interested parties. An action plan for dealing with wastes and abandoned seabed fishing gear will be developed and proposed to ensure sustainable economic use of the natural heritage. From the project outset, a public awareness campaign will be launched to attract the attention and support of stakeholders and the younger generation.
