Improving of knowledge for marine environment for sustainable sea resources management and achieving of the goals of the blue growth

The project proposal will contribute for achievement of the goals of the Marine Strategy for protection of the marine water environment of the Republic of Bulgaria, elaborated in accordance of Marine Strategy Framework Directive 2008/56/EU to maintain or achieve good marine environment status. The project aims to increase the knowledge of the marine environment in terms of surface and seabed marine waste in Burgas bay or will complement the knowledge of the Programme for monitoring after Descriptor 10. The data om the project will be collected in urban areas and in this way will complement the data collected and analyzed under MARLEN project, financed by the Financial mechanism of the EEA, which concerned floating waste and beach waste that are not directly affected by tourist activities. In addition to monitoring activities, provision of specialized equipment, training and promotion activities to the general public is planned. Project target groups are scientific organisations, public authorities engaged in the area of environment, and their local divisions, harbour operators, fisheries sector and civil society, including non-governmental organisations. The expected project result is a decreasing trend in the amount of marine waste floating on the water surface and deposited on the seabed.
