The investment project “Railway Infrastructure Rehabilitation along Sections of Plovdiv - Burgas Railway Line” envisages construction of a main line to serve the population and the domestic and international freight traffic. The project shall provide interoperability of the infrastructure, the equipment and the management, operation and safety systems, and shall ensure connection with the European railway networks by applying unified standards. Plovdiv-Burgas railway line is part of the core Trans-European Transport Network and part of the Orient/East-Med Corridor. The existing Plovdiv-Burgas railway line is electrified and has a total length of 294 km, of which 128 km are single line and 166 km – double line. Design speed along the line varies between 100 and 160 km/h. The implementation strategy for the rehabilitation of the railway infrastructure along sections of Plovdiv-Burgas railway line comprises two phases: Phase 1 of the project includes the following stages: - Stage I: Technical Assistance for Railway Infrastructure Rehabilitation along Sections of Plovdiv-Burgas Railway Line (completed); - Stage II: Railway Infrastructure Rehabilitation along Sections of Plovdiv-Burgas Railway Line in Bulgaria (in implementation under OPT and including the following substages: • Mihaylovo – Kaloyanovets section; • Stara Zagora – Zimnitsa section; • Tserkovski – Burgas section; • Traction sub-stations Stara Zagora and Nova Zagora; • Traction sub-stations Yambol, Karnobat and Burgas; • Signalling and telecommunication systems at Burgas junction. Phase 2 includes the following stages: - Stage I: Technical Assistance for project “Rehabilitation of Plovdiv-Burgas Railway Section – Phase 2” (completed) - Stage II: Preparation of project “Rehabilitation of Plovdiv-Burgas Railway Section – Phase 2” (in implementation under OPT) Continues in Annex A_EN
