LINE 2 EXTENSION PROJECT OF SOFIA METRO, SECTION MS "JAMES BOURCHIER" - MS "VITOSHA" - PHASE 2

This proposal relates to Phase 2 of the Extension Project of Line 2 of the Sofia Metro, section MS "James Bourchier" to MS "Vitosha" with a length of 1.3 km and 1 metro station included for funding under OPTTI 2014-2020, as Phase 1 of this project was financed under OPT 2007-2013 through the possibilities of the so-called "back phasing”. Phase 1 of project includes the underground section of Line 2 southwards of MS "James Boucher" in the direction of ring road to MS "Vitosha", located in the intersection between Cherni Vrah boulevard and Srebarna street. With the implementation of the section of MS "James Boucher" to MS "Vitosha" there continues the phased implementation of the metro network set out as the backbone of the transport and communication system of the city according to the GMP and the short-term programme of Sofia Municipality. In order to provide a faster recovery of the traffic along the very busy Cherni Vrah, Henrik Ibsen boulevards and Srebarna street as well as ensuring the earlier start of construction– the project needed to be divided into two phases: -Phase 1-includes activities related to the preparation of design, selection of contractors, reconstruction of engineering networks, construction of the structures of tunnels and a metro station and road works above them. Phase 1 represents 48,5 % of the entire project (Table 19 of Appendix 4) and was completed at the end of 2015. -Phase 2 represents 51,5 % of the entire project and includes full completion of the project after the implementation of Phase 1- architectural design of MS "Vitosha", equipment of the metro section and station with operation systems of the following parts: Rail road and contact rail, Dispatch Control Systems; Connection with the Central Control Room; Radio System; Power Supply System; Systems of Traffic Automation and speed control of the trains; Integrated Audio-visual Systems and Low Voltage Systems and complex tests and putting into operation of the section.
