Sofia Metro Extension project, Line 3, Stage II –section “Zhitnitsa str. – Ovcha Kupel RD – Ring Road”

Stage II of Line 3–section “Zhitnitsa str.–Ovcha kupel RD–Ring road” is part of the phased construction of the line laid down in the General master plan (GMP) and the short-term program of Sofia municipality for the development of transport as part of the backbone of the transport and communication system of the city. The project covers the western part of the line and starts at the end of the underground section after MC 14 (end of Stage I of Line 3 „Vladimir Vazov Blvd.-Centre–Zhitnitsa str." that runs from 05.01.2016 with Grant by OPTTI 2014-2020), passes through the district "Ovcha kupel" and reaches MC18, which is located under the ring road between "Central"str. and railway line Sofia-Pernik. The project includes 4 underground stations and metro with a length of 3.8 km, in a largely underground except for that portion of the route between MC 14 and MC 15, which will be on the viaduct. In MS 18 provided as part of a project to build a connection between the railroad and railway station. Thus, in the near future conditions will be established for integrated operation of metro, automotive, rail and air transport systems, which directly leads to the fulfilment of the priority for intermodality in passenger transportation. The value of the investments needed for the construction of Stage II of Line 3 from the Sofia metro extension project is estimated at EUR 103,4 mill (VAT excl.), based on conducted public procurements related to implementation of this stage. Within present project proposal will be constructed: metro trace with total length 3.8 km, 4 metro stations and a railway stop, which will be equipped with following operation systems: Electric, Low voltage systems, Transport automatics, Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, Water supply and sewerage, Railway track, Automatics and mechanics for the movement of the trains and communication links.
