Technical assistance for preparation of project "Modernization of railway line Sofia - border with Republic of Serbia"

The current application form "Technical assistance for preparation of project "Modernization of railway Sofia - Republic of Serbia border" contains the preparation of the designs for modernization of the railway sections Sofia - Dragoman and Dragoman - Republic of Serbia border. The project proposal includes the following activities: -Conductions of archeological investigations for the railway line Sofia - Dragoman -Elaboration of technical design for modernization of the railway infrastructure in the section Petarch - Dragoman -Feasibility studies and Conceptual design preparation for parts railway road and geodesy for the modernization of section Dragoman - Serbian border. -Activities related to administrative fees. -Measures for information and publicity. The railway Sofia - Republic of Serbia border is part of the Trance-european transport network and its modernization is among the priority projects. The railway line is with 58 km length. In general, in regards to the characteristics of the territory the project could be divided in three sections: Sofia - Petarch - 23 km, which is relatively flat; Petarch - Dragoman - 22 km, which is hilly and mountainous and Dragoman - Republic of Serbia border - 13 km, which is mountainous. The boundaries of the rail sections included in the current application form are as follows: • From the end switch of Sofia Central Railway Station, direction Dragoman on the main railway line Nis - Dragoman - Sofia (Sofia Central Station is not included); • the border with Serbia. In order to achieve the estimated traffic, meet the requirements for operational compatibility and implement the possibility for speeds of 160 km / h and 120 km / h respectively for passenger and cargo compositions, there is a conceptual design developed with option for modernization of the railway line in the section Sofia - Dragoman - Station Umlyak which envisages deviation from the existing route.
