Effectiveness, management and institutional capacity support for WSS sector

The project complies with the principles and needs as defined in the Strategy for Development and Management of the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector in the Republic of Bulgaria 2014 - 2023 and the Action plan for its implementation and includes activities, which aim at the implementation of the measures envisaged in them. The concept of the project proposal’s content reflects the consistency and sustainability in the implementation of the priorities in conducting the policy in the WSS sector, the activities already accomplished and the experience gained during the last programming period 2007-2013. Within the project activities there will be analyses and actions for the implementation of best international practices in the management and development of water supply infrastructure and provision of services, measures aiming at enhancing the institutional capacity for control, management and planning of water supply and sewerage sector, an increase in efficiency and sustainability, performance of the responsibilities of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works as envisaged in the Water Act and related to the development of specialized information systems, support for the definition of changes in the relevant laws and regulations, creating opportunities for the financial viability of the sector in the long run, etc. It is envisaged that the project activities will be carried out in parallel with the implementation of project “Support for the Regional Investment Planning in the Water and Sanitation Sector”, financed by the Operational Programme "Environment 2014-2020" (OPE 2014-2020), following the common principles of ensuring the sustainability of the reform in the sector, effective utilisation of grant funds and implementation of projects under OPE 2014-2020.
