Building eco infrastructure for Regional Association for Waste Management "Rila Eko"

The project proposal covers the municipalities of Kyustendil, Nevestino and Treklyano, which are included in the RWMA RILA ECO, Dupnitsa waste management region. It aims to reduce the amount of mixed waste for landfilling by pre-treatment as well as ensuring separate collection and recycling of domestic, biodegradable and green waste. For this purpose, it is envisaged a pre-treatment plant for mixed municipal waste with a capacity of 15500 t/yr to be designed and built. In addition, a composting plant with a capacity 3000 t/yr. will be designed and built for utilisation of separately collected green and/or biodegradable waste. The installations will be located on the site Gladni rid in Radilovtsi village, Kyustendil, site identification No 000132, UCATTU 61457, with an area of 24,08 decares. The pre-treatment facility will serve the population ofKyustendil, Nevestino and Treklyano municipalities amounting to 52 702 people. It is envisaged the manual sorting and aerobic stabilization method of the organic fraction to be applied and to have a pre-treatment (separation and stabilization) module. The composting plant will serve 52 158 people, residents of the municipalities of Kyustendil and Nevestino. It will apply the method of composting in open sheltered boxes and actually is an open-air composting installation with mechanical stirring for aerating composted materials with an automatic system for stirring and aerating the compost As a result of the project implementation the three municipalities will fulfill their obligations with regard to the organization of municipal waste management - including their collection and pre-treatment to reduce the volume of landfills. This will add up to achieving the objectives of PA 2 Waste of OPE - to provide additional recycling capacity and reduce the amount of landfilled waste.
