Design and construction of a composting installation and an installation for preliminary treatment of waste for municipalities Dupnitsa, Bobov Dol and Sapareva Banya

The overall objective of the project is to reduce the waste disposed at landfill in municipalities Dupnitsa, Bobov Dol and Sapareva Banya by ensuring infrastructure for separate collection, recycling and recovery of waste in order to reduce the quantity of biodegradable waste going to landfills and increase the share of recycled and recovered waste. The project envisages construction of an installation for preliminary treatment of household waste before disposal with capacity 14 342 t/y and an installation for composting green and/or biodegradable waste from the territory of the three municipalities with capacity 4173 t/y . The installations will be constructed on the territory of municipality Dupnitsa within the boundaries of the designed Regional waste treatment center that includes also a regional landfill for all municipalities members of Regional Waste Management Association “Rila Eco”. Project investments will contribute also to improve resource efficiency, as the waste will turn into useful resources – the composting installation will produce high quality compost, and the installation for preliminary treatment will separate recyclable waste. Waste bins for separate collection of green waste and a truck will be purchased with the purpose to introduce an organized system of separate collection of biodegradable waste in the three municipalities. The socio-economic benefits of the execution of the project will be improved quality of environment for the inhabitants of the three municipalities, reduced greenhouse emissions associated with waste disposal; provision of a new service for households and businesses; opening of new jobs for the operation of the installations and the system for separate collection of waste.
