Construction of anaerobic installation for source - separated organic waste on the territory of Burgas Region

The municipalities from the Burgas regional waste association are facing the challenge to meet the goals under art. 31 of the WMA. The pre-investment study shows that the municipalities of Burgas, Nessebar and Pomorie have the largest contribution to producing biodegradable waste in the region. This project proposal includes an integrated approach in waste management and employs measures of a higher level in the waste management hierarchy. The chosen method is dry methanation and the respective plant consists of the following elements: -Anaerobic plant with a capacity of 30 652 t/y, comprised of 8 bioreactors with their respective systems, biogas system, percolate system, gas storage, as well as mobile equipment - 2 front-end loaders -Composting plant - 6 tunnels for composting the fermentation product, trommel screen, and systems. -Cogeneration system for simultaneously generating electricity and useful heat from the biogas. -Concomitant infrastructure - road leading to the plant 370 m.(sidewalk, lighting), water - 149 m., and waste water 111m. and 85 for rainy infrastructure, as well as a medium voltage cable 231 m. long. -A common system for separately collected biodegradable waste is planned, which includes 10 pieces of waste collection equipment as well as biodegradable waste containers for Burgas Mun., for green waste- 1700 pieces of 240 liters and 6580 p. x120l.-for food waste, Nessebar Mun. - 559 p. x240l. and 939p. x 120l., Pomorie Municipality - 423p x 240l. and 1114p. x 120l. An administrative building with a workshop, laboratory and garage for the waste collection vehicles will be constructed to ensure the operative and administrative service. A reception point with a barrier and a scale at the entrance of the plant is envisaged. The partnering municipalities will jointly award a third party to operate the constructed installation and separately collected waste facilities in the three municipalities, in compliance with the partnership agreement.
