Design and construction of an installation for composting green and/or biodegradable waste in municipality Montana

The overall goal of the Project is to reduce the quantity of disposed biodegradable waste generated in Municipality Montana through separate collection and composting of green and/or biodegradable waste. This goal is compliant with the waste management hierarchy and the EU and national objectives for reducing the quantity of biodegradable waste going to landfills. The project contributes also to improving resource efficiency as the infrastructure built under the project will turn the waste into a useful product – compost. The specific objective of the Project is to ensure the needed infrastructure for separate collection and recovery of green/ biodegradable wastes in the municipality. A composting installation with a capacity 6150 t/y will be constructed that will be located on the territory of the Regional landfill in locality “Nedelishte”, at seven km south-east of town Montana, on the territory of village Krapchene, municipality Montana. As a result of the project, a composting installation will be constructed and put into operation that will recover separate collected green and/or biodegradable waste from the settlements on the territory of municipality Montana and will produce high quality compost. Equipment for introduction of a new municipal service separate collection of green and/or biodegradable waste will be ensured. The social and economic effects from the implementation of the project consist in improved quality of the environment by reducing hazardous emissions related to waste disposal; provision of a new waste management service for the citizens and business in the municipality and provision of high quality compost. New jobs will be created for the operation of the infrastructure built under the project.
