Belogradchik: Zero wastes through the separate collection and composting in households

The Belogradchik Municipality project aims to raise awareness, knowledge, and skills for waste prevention in the community by: - active participation in the strategic planning process for the reduction of solid municipal waste through the application of the "zero waste" principle, incl.: prolonging the life of items and materials by reusing them; separate collection and diversion from waste disposal - glass, paper, plastics, packaging, old medicines, etc. - prevention of biodegradable waste generation and composting by households in single-family residential buildings. The following good practices are assessed and discussed in detail for the needs of the project: - Implementation of the 'zero waste' approach in the SMW management process - selected GP of the Palo Alto, the USA for the introduction; - Reduction of BW in household-generated SMW as a specific measure to implement the zero-waste principle - selected for the introduction of the GP of Leicestershire, England. Activities envisaged: Activity 1. Preparation of the project Activity 2. Implementation of a demonstration project Activity 3. Campaigns to promote the results of the project Activity 4. Project organization and management Activity 5. Information and communication The activities are in line with the objectives set out in Art. 31, para 1 of the Waste Management Act to reduce the harmful effects of waste by preventing their generation and promoting their re-use. As a result of the demonstration project, the following long-term results are expected to be achieved: a) Reduction of municipal waste incl. by preventing the generation of BWs and their composting; b) Increasing the share of separately collected waste. The target groups of the project include 1069 persons such as: a) children from 7-13 years old: 305; b) 557 household representatives covered by the door-to-door campaign, 15 Counselors, Survey: 44 companies, 88 households, 60 persons involved in the public consultations.
