The project proposal demonstrates good practices in the management of the specific municipal waste stream generated by hotels in order to prevent the generation of municipal waste, to prepare for re-use and/or the separate collection of municipal waste from hotels and the implementation of measures to ensure their subsequent recycling in the implementation of Zero Waste Europe Slovenia and the Green Business Project Scheme implemented in Scotland, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Wales. All of the activities included in the proposal are in accordance with the legislation in force in Bulgaria. The project proposal includes the development and implementation of model for waste prevention in hotels and accommodations, certification for suitable waste management in hotels and accommodation. Drawing public attention to the prevention of municipal waste generation, preparation for reuse and separate collection of municipal waste with subsequent recycling is the most important step to stimulate behaviour change in order to create a zero- waste society. For this purpose, the organisation of campaigns is planned- 2 press conferences, 3 round table conferences and 4 presentations in electronic media. Development of brochures and guidance are also being planned in order to support the project implementation and achieve sustainable results. It is envisaged to develop and publish a compilation of criteria for hotel evaluation, methodology for its implementation, preparation of distinctive signs, preparation of certification documents, demonstration of the application of the methodology in two hotels and awarding distinctive mark. Expert assistance is foreseen for hotels to improve waste management and recommend enforcement measures to award a higher distinctive mark, as well as to develop exemplary models to prevent the generation of waste in hotels and accommodation establishments.
