“Demonstration of a system for separate collection of textiles, reuse, preparation for reuse and manufacture of carpets from non- suitable for reuse textiles”

The project proposal demonstrates a combination of good practices with proven results, including activities that are highest in the hierarchy of waste management: preventing of their formation, preparation for reuse and recycling. All activities included in the proposal are in compliance with the legislation in force and applicable to the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. The project proposal includes the organisation of a demonstration system for separate collection of clothing and textiles that are not needed by their owners. The collected clothing and textiles are provided for reuse after disinfection.Clothes with minor defects that are not in good condition for direct re-use are undergoing a re-use preparation process, which includes inspection, cleaning and, where necessary, repair. The non- suitable for reuse clothing and textiles are being cut into the rags and stripes required for carpet weaving. A workshop is organised in which the carpets will be weaved of the suitable for reuse textiles. For the proper organisation of the process of sorting fabrics and for the weaving of the carpets, it is envisaged to develop instruction about the sorting, cutting of the non- suitable for reuse clothing and textiles, and waving carpets, as well as training the staff on the developed instructions. In order to attract public attention to prevent the generation of municipal waste from clothing and textiles and to stimulate change in the behaviour with the aim forming a zero- waste society, campaigns are planned to be organised- 2 press conferences, round table conference and 2 demonstration workshops. Development of brochures and guidance are also being planned in order to support the project implementation and achieve sustainable results. The organisation and management of the project will be carried out by a dedicated team of experts, who will also carry out information and communication activities. The project will be implemented in Varna and Sofia.
