Think before you throw it away

Think before you throw it away project demonstrates projects nominated from the EC's European Waste Prevention Week. The main goal of the project is to demonstrate and implement the studied good practices in the field of waste reduction and, to organize re-use activities and actions aimed at enhancing knowledge about recycling and waste hierarchy for changing public awareness and positive environmental impact by reducing the waste amount in schools community The project can be replicated as a whole or partly, as all drivers and vehicles will be on ground after its completion. All activities are addressed to change consumer behavior, recognized as a key driver for food waste prevention in the EC Guidelines on the issue. The project will present waste management hierarchy (prevention, reuse, recycling) to the target groups, emphasizing that "prevention" is considered the best way to manage waste The main project activities involve students, teachers and parents from 3 Sofia schools in funny and fancy actions: Think Before You Throw Out class, Library of Things class, and a culinary course Our food leftovers are not waste. We will demonstrate that small and simple lifestyle changes can have a great positive effect on the environment. At the end of the project we will evaluate whether there has been a behavior change and lessons learnt to the next. The activities will also be presented in Burgas and Plovdiv to attract targets to replicate these good practices. The mechanics of the project are based on the latest research in the field of behavioral psychology. In recent years, cognitive psychology has made revolutionary discoveries proving that positive emotions broaden our consciousness, our views and produce long lasting effects. So training shall be fun, playful and contagious.
