Implementation of a demonstration project for home composting in Kaloyanovo Municipality

The project envisages the introduction of home composting in villages in the municipality of Kaloyanovo, through the placement of personal composters for biodegradable domestic waste. The domestic waste that will be covered by the project is code 20 02 01 "Biodegradable garden and park waste" and code 20 01 08 "Biodegradable kitchen and catering waste". The project envisages on-site composting of the source of biodegradable waste from 400 households in four villages of Kaloyanovo municipality - Kaloyanovo village, Zhitnitsa village, Dalgo pole village and Ruzhevo Konare village. The project applies good home composting practices in the Arun District, England and the Lipor Inter-Municipal Waste Management Service in Valongo and Vila do Conde municipalities, Portugal. Based on the positive experience gained from good practices in England and Portugal, the project envisages the purchase of 400 pieces home composters with a capacity of 1000 liters and 400 pcs. branch crushers to be provided for use by households from the four villages that have indicated their willingness to participate in the demonstration project. The project fully includes activities that are highest in the waste hierarchy - preventing the generation of biodegradable municipal waste through home composting at source.
