TRANSITION TO CIRCULAR ECONOMY THROUGH COMPOSTING IN HOUSEHOLDS AND IN PILOT SCHOOLS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF ETROPOLE

The project "Transition to Circular Economy through Composting in Households and in Pilot Schools in the Municipality of Etropole aims at preventing the generation of municipal waste and in particular the amount of biodegradation. The project will cover the town of Etropole, the villages of Brusen, Boykovets, Lopyan, Laga, Ribaritsa, Yamna and Malki Iskar. For the implementation of the project, a good practice for composting in the community and households by the municipality of Chambéry, France, has been selected and the following actions will be taken: • Survey of the attitudes in the community and households to prevent the generation of biodegradable waste - organizing and conducting 2 focus groups with 3 representatives of households, parents, schools, retieries - the major waste generators; development of questionnaires and conducting surveys; developing a report from the study; • Establishment and implementation of a "Composting and Zero Waste" Demonstration Educational Program in two pilot schools aimed at students in: Hristo Botev Primary School and Hristo Yasenov Secondary School. The aim is to increase the knowledge of students from grades 1 to 8 for composting and prevention, separate collection and prolonging the life of separately collected waste; • Equipping school yards with Demonstration Composting Systems and involving students, teachers and parents in various activities related to the prevention of waste generation; • Provision of composting vessels to 200 households on the territory of the villages in the Etropole municipality for the purpose of introducing and implementing a Home Composting Program; • Preparation of manuals for composting in households; • Training of persons who will use the relevant tangible assets (community and household composting containers) for the purpose of implementing good practice; • Monitoring performance in households and the community (schools).
