„Commercial Hub Enabling the Separate Collection of Used Textiles with the Help of a Management and Infrastructure System Allowing for the Electronic Monitoring of Collected Material as well as the Automated Sorting and Preparation for Reuse and Recycling„

The project entails the setup of a completely self-sustaining demonstration system for the separate collection, preparation for reuse and recycling of textile waste. The system concept was created on the basis of a successful practice, implemented in Antwerp, involving the placement of containers for the separate collection of textile waste in shopping centres and the preparation for reuse and recycling of collected textile waste within the territory of Belgium. In order to achieve the favourable results reported in the city of Antwerp, the proposed demonstration project envisages the use of best available technologies both in the field of electronic monitoring and accounting of textile waste, as well as in the field of automation in operations related to the preparation for reuse and recycling of textile waste. Planned activities include: - placing containers for the separate collection of used textiles on the premises of Jumbo Plaza shopping park (Kremikovtsi area, Sofia Municipality); - integration of a software solution for servicing textile waste containers, including for the purposes of monitoring and accounting for the quantity of collected material; - the purchase and installation of machinery and equipment to ensure the sorting of collected material and its preparation for reuse or for recycling, depending on the quality of textile waste collected – sorting center in Varna; - carrying out a communication campaign to promote the objectives and results of the demonstration project, including informing citizens about the environmental and human health benefits of separate collection of textile waste and its preparation for reuse or recycling. The project's communication activities will also aim to raise awareness of acting in line with the waste management hierarchy, as well as to ensure greater involvement of citizens in the separate collection activities of textile waste.
